What Is Continuous Birth Support?

Continuous birth support means your birth doula stays with you throughout your entire labor and delivery — from early active labor until after your baby is born.

There are no hourly caps, and no overtime fees

. For families in Tampa Bay, this means having a consistent, familiar presence by your side whether labor lasts a few hours or much longer.

           Why Continuous Labor Support Matters?

Labor can be intense, emotional, and unpredictable. Having continuous labor support in Tampa allows you to:

Feel calm and grounded with a trusted support person

            Receive uninterrupted emotional reassurance

Access hands-on comfort measures throughout labor

Navigate unexpected changes with clarity and confidence

Avoid stress related to time limits or additional charges

This level of consistency helps families stay focused on their birth experience rather than logistics or costs.

            At The Doula FOURce,

continuous labor support is standard — not an upgrade

. Families receiving birth doula services in Tampa, FL never pay extra based on labor length. You can rest assured knowing:

Your doula will not leave due to time constraints

There are no surprise hourly fees

Support remains steady through long or complex labors

This approach reflects a deep respect for the natural, unpredictable nature of birth.

Happy New Year, Growing Families ✨

A brand new year is here, and with it comes fresh beginnings, deep breaths, and so much possibility. As birth & postpartum doulas, this season always feels especially meaningful. The New Year isn’t just about resolutions—it’s about renewal, intention, and honoring the seasons of life we’re in.

Whether you’re expecting a baby, freshly postpartum, or simply dreaming about what’s next for your family, we want to take a moment to say Happy New Year and remind you: you don’t have to do this alone.

           Honoring the Year Behind Us

The year we’re leaving behind likely held moments of joy, exhaustion, growth, and maybe even survival. Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum have a way of stretching us—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. If you made it through sleepless nights, hard days, or unexpected turns, please pause and acknowledge your strength.

There is no “right” way to have done last year. There is only your way—and it was enough.

           Welcoming the Year Ahead

A new year invites us to slow down and ask:

           What support do I need?

How do I want to feel in this next season?

           Who can walk alongside me?

For many families, the answer is more care, more rest, and more compassion. As doulas, our heart is set on helping families step into this year feeling informed, supported, and confident—whether that looks like preparing for birth, navigating postpartum, or simply being reminded that your feelings are valid.

           Gentle Intentions for Parents

Instead of big resolutions, here are a few gentle intentions you might carry into the New Year:

           Rest without guilt

           Ask for help without apology

           Trust your instincts

           Prioritize your healing

Create space for joy and laughter

Small, loving steps matter. You are allowed to move slowly.

           Looking Ahead Together

If this year includes welcoming a new baby or continuing your postpartum journey, we would be honored to support you. Birth and postpartum are not meant to be experienced in isolation—they are meant to be held with care, knowledge, and community.

Here’s to a year of new beginnings, softened expectations, and families feeling deeply supported.

Happy New Year. May this year meet you with gentleness, strength, and so much love.

Fetal Ejection Reflex

Your body's Naturally engineered birth power - FER.

Birth is powerful, sacred, and—believe it or not—designed to work with you, not against you. One of the most amazing examples of that design is something called the

           Fetal Ejection Reflex

            , often shortened to

           FER

           .

If you have never heard of it, you are not alone. FER is one of the most natural, instinctive parts of birth, but it is rarely talked about. The DoulaFOURce has had the honor of supporting 2 mamas who experienced FER and it is the most magical thing to witness!

According to science, FER is a neuroendocrine reflex that helps women deliver their babies quickly & instinctively during transition when your cervix is completely dilated. This reflex is triggered by high levels of your stress hormones such as adrenaline and nor-epinephrine, which can be released when a mother feels save and supported. This reflex allows the uterus to contract forcefully, delivering the baby without the need for voluntary pushing.

FER can happen when these 5 things are put into place:

           1. Create a calm, protected birth place.

This is not a performance that you feel the pressure to put on a show. This is something sacred that deserves as much reverence that you can give.

           2. Choose supportive birth partners.

Having a birth doula present with your spouse does create a safe and supported environment.

           3. Limit unnecessary vaginal exams & talking during contractions.

You do not want to spike your stress hormones - this will stall out your labor. Keep that oxytocin flowing.

           4. Follow your instincts.

Your voice matters, so you should be able to move & rest on demand.

           5. Trust your body.

Confidence reduces tension - and tension slows labor.

DOULAS Know

           a few things Doulas know

A safe space with open communication and intent listening creates a trusting relationship with the birthing person.

Emotional support is crucial in not just the birth space. Words of encouragement in the latter days of pregnancy, active listening during a postpartum visit - go a long way to bring comfort.

Filling the gap is essential - be the village! Sometimes that’s loading the dishwasher, or folding a load of laundry, offering up resources for extra support, going to provider appointments, creating a birth plan.

Education is KEY!!! From every aspect of pregnancy to postpartum, there is no topic that cannot be educated about.

When something isn’t right. Mental health is just as important as nutrition.

They DO NOT replace your partner!

They support all types of births - not just home births. They can even go with you & your partner to your schedule cesarean birth at some hospitals.

They DO NOT deliver babies - we love a good partnership with a midwife or OB!

Shared information regarding birth options is helpful as you discuss this with your various providers.

Fluids & body sensations are normal during labor!

Options are always available to you as the birthing person.

Mediating conversations with your care team is often necessary to reduce stress - open communication benefits EVERYONE!

Comfort techniques during labor bring peace.

Support to your partner is just as critical as support to you as the birthing person.

That GOALS are important but also know that coping is key if those GOALS change.

Fewer interventions are needed when there is a partnership between them & a birthing person.

You have endured the anxiety of those infamous 3 minutes, while waiting for that test to confirm that your life is about to drastically change forever.

All of the emotions running rampant... shock, excitement, nerves like none other, and a whole bunch of questions fill your mind!

Questions like 'When do I go to the doctor?', 'Who should I call first?', and yes 'What do I do now?!' all are part of the flood of thoughts running through your brain.

Let a mom of 4 and a doula help you out!

            1) Share that exciting news with your partner, or someone that will be a constant source of emotional support!

Joy, and yes even sorrow, are so much better when shared with people we care about. Those first weeks of sharing the news of a new baby with friends and family, are so exciting. It's like finding out for yourself, that you are pregnant all over again!

           2) Call your health care provider, and make an appointment to confirm pregnancy and establish yourself as a pregnant mama.

You will want to establish yourself with a trusted provider that closely aligns with your expectations and ideals when it comes to childbirth. Some things to consider when choosing a provider, is to know what hospital they deliver at, what are their cesearan birth rates, and what are their induction rates.

           3) RESEARCH DOULAS IN YOUR AREA!

It is not uncommon for doulas to be booked MONTHS in advance. While there is the rare chance they have last minute openings, preparing for childbirth is one of those things that you should not wait around on. As you begin to think about nursery decor and prepare that closet with all the cuteness that infancy brings... why not prepare your mind and your body? A doula can help you navigate each and every decision that needs to be made. Often times they have a proverbial 'Little Black Book' filled with resources that can help you. From things as trivial as 'what's the best diaper pail?' to the more serious 'What are some easy comfort techniques to remember?'... a doula can help you both physically and mentally prepare for your little ones arrival!

Welcome to the world of what is known to our family & close friends - the FOURce!

We are four sisters who grew up with incredibly amazing parents who have dedicated their lives teaching us to be good humans & add value wherever we go. The word "doula" feels like something we grew up knowing. Our mother's sister is a DONA certified birth doula with over 25 years experience. Yes, there were some Thanksgivings & Christmas dinners that did not start on time.

Time & life has made us best friends. We have experienced the highest of highs & lowest of low's and once the dust settles we always find ourselves relying on the strength of the sisterhood, and the beauty of the friendship time has forced us to create. Kaylah & Kandra have 6 wonderful littles between the 2 of them. Tessa & I have a had the greatest times of our life being a doula for our sisters, and auntie to our sweeties.

Our motto in life is "what you see is what you get". In the majority of life situations, our approach is pretty black & white. However, we do love to laugh & have a good time - we call these our pops of color. Our intentions as the doulaFOURce is to be as transparent as possible. Many of our clients will tell you that we start out as a client/professional relationship and then somewhere along our journey we become best friends.

We are thrilled to be on this new journey together with you and with each other. We have a variety of services available to you and we cannot wait to get to know you & your family.
